How To: Make Your Own Terrarium
Terrariums are great idea – if you love the idea of having a patch of plants, but don’t have the time or green thumb to nurture one. These mini ecosystems are also a neat way to get the kids started on a mini garden of their own while adding some greenery to your home!
What you’ll need: 
A glass container, no lid required- any size
A bag of small stones or pebbles
A selection of small, house plants
Potting mix
Gravel & mini animal or gnome for decoration – optional
What to do:
Firstly fill the bottom of your terrarium with a few layers (about an inch) of stones or pebbles for drainage. Find them in your garden, or if you can’t, visit your local nursery or hardware store
Top the stones with organic potting mix – enough to fill about a third of your vessel. Alas, soil from your garden won’t cut it here, and if you’re planting succulents like us, you’ll need a mix that’s made just for them. Why not try making your own with a recipe online
Arrange your plants in the terrarium, using a chopstick or pencil to dig if you’re opposed to dirty hands. Succulents are easier because they don’t need a lot of love to keep them alive and there are heaps of different types
Sprinkle gravel between and around the plants for decoration. Make it easy on yourself by using a rolled up piece of paper to spread them in little nooks and crannies
Decorate your little green world with mini woodland creatures, gnomes, dinosaurs or whatever takes your fancy
Add a small amount of water once a week to keep soil moist, but never wet. Remember to place it in a spot that receives a small to moderate amount of sunlight and enjoy!
